David Knowlton is an essayist, poet, commentator, blogger, and scholar. At Utah Valley University he is currently a professor of anthropology. As an anthropologist he has written widely about Mormon issues, especially Mormons in Latin America. He has also written on gender and sexuality. Knowlton has also taught graduate courses in Argentina, Mexico, and Peru. Besides his academic work, David was the Bilingual Director at Human Pursuits and wrote for publications such as Sunstone, The Pillar, The Salt Lake Tribune, and New York Newsday. He has blogged on By Common Consent and currently works on Cuzco Eats, among others. He has addressed many community groups, including Affirmation on numerous occasions, and was involved in the formation of Family Fellowship. Knowlton served an LDS mission in Bolivia and served as second and first counselor in a Bishopric although he no longer is an active Mormon.
