Workshop for Families

Workshop for Families

LeeBecksteadLee Beckstead, Ph.D., and Hollie Hancock, M.S., co–facilitate an interactive workshop intended to strengthen family relationships through acceptance, understanding, communication and self–direction. Hollie briefly reviews the handout linked below, then Lee begins the workshop by explaining the normal human physiological fight, flight, and submit response to trauma and asks a volunteer from the audience to help him demonstrate the concepts through an aikido exercise. After discussing how to be assertive in response to interpersonal conflicts, Lee and Hollie guide workshop participants through an interactive discussion that evokes authentic expressions about what has been difficult and what has been valuable in dealing with homosexuality and same–sex attraction within their families and Mormonism. Lee takes notes as participants summarize the lessons they learned during the workshop; their list is linked below.
