Community Session

Community Session

This session features Dr. Caitlin Ryan, John Gustav–Wrathall, Kim Mack and Carol Lynn Pearson.

Dr. Ryan discusses the Family Acceptance Project and its effort to support LGBT young people by helping their families understand how to decrease rejecting behaviors and increase behaviors that promote the wellbeing of their children. John speaks about the Tree of Life, love as the power of godliness, his testimony of the truthfulness of the Mormon Church, the sacredness of his love for his husband, and his decision to be active in his ward despite his excommunication. Kim speaks about the fact that regardless of her excommunication and her consequent exclusion from many aspects of Mormon worship, she has never left the church. She states that she had the same testimony both the day before and the day after her membership was removed from a remote list. Carol Lynn advocates for the perspective of the straight spouse by speaking about the triumph of romantic love. She calls attention to the fact that the phenomenon of ‘being in love’ is deeply profound, meaningful and godly.
